I just saw this image on Facebook. (Unfortunately it's pretty low resolution.) It's from the Embroiderer's Guild of Victoria (B.C.). It made me very sentimental about all of the old wooden spools of thread I have from my grandmother's sewing box. I've got some gorgeous ribbons I purchased at Soutache (http://www.soutacheribbons.com/ribbons.html), which is in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago. I could see embellishing some of my old spools with ribbons that are padded with a bit of batting and then embroidered with tiny seed beads and silk embroidery threads. I think they'd make beautiful tassels or pendants with elaborate beaded fringe hanging from the hole at the bottom. I'd love to hear if anyone out there has created anything like that!
