Inspired by artist Chuck Close's larger-than-life paintings, and working with layered bottle caps to create subtle shading, Croteau created this 7' x 8' self portrait entirely out of bottle caps! Paint was only used in small areas to cover over the white background where it showed through if she wanted to create shadows.

I love this work, both visually and conceptually. To me the work comes across as bold, engaging, and exquisitely crafted; and I love that in a world brimming with man-made materials Ms. Croteau has chosen to reuse what otherwise would be considered unwanted trash to create meaningful, powerful art.
